The objective is to increase our understanding and promote awareness of poverty. Participants will have scripts and materials to assume the role of an individual or family in poverty. Simulated agencies/services will be located against the wall and serve as resources for the needs of the participants. In the middle of the room will be chairs set up to accommodate the 60 (ideal) up to 80 (max) participants who will have scripts and materials for a particular role of an individual or family in poverty. The session will start with education about objectives and simulation instructions. The simulation follows, which simulates 4 weeks in your life, and takes a little over an hour. Each week is only 15min, which is an effective way to simulate the pressure one can have of an eviction or trying to feed your family!! After the simulation, we’ll have a debrief, where we hear some of the Participant’s experiences but also from agency staff members who help serve this community every day.
